RUBIO VIDEO STATEMENT: We Will Have Immigration Reform If We Can Secure The Border
Washington, D.C. – This afternoon, the Senate voted 84 to 15 in favor of the motion to proceed to the consideration of S.744, “The Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act.” U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) released the following video statement after today’s vote. Rubio’s statement is available on YouTube in both English and Spanish. For television stations interested in airing today’s statement, a broadcast quality video is also available in both English and Spanish.
RUBIO: WE WILL HAVE IMMIGRATION REFORM IF WE CAN SECURE THE BORDER
“I think today’s vote is a good sign. It shows there’s strong bipartisan support for solving our immigration problem. At the end of the day, I think it’s all going to hinge on whether we can secure the border and have real security measures to ensure that this never happens again in the future. But what this vote today proves is that most of my Republican colleagues are prepared to vote for immigration reform – as long as we can ensure that we don’t have another wave illegal immigration in the future. So I think it’s a good start, we have some work to do still.”
