MEDIA ADVISORY: Rubio To Receive Thomas Jefferson International Religious Freedom Champion Award

Mar 21, 2016 | Press Releases

Washington, D.C. Tomorrow, U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) will accept the International Religious Freedom (IRF) Roundtable’s Thomas Jefferson International Religious Freedom Champion Award, and give remarks about his work in this area and the need for continued action and advocacy surrounding this most fundamental human right.

Rubio has been a leading advocate of international religious freedom issues in the Senate, including playing a central role in the reauthorization of the bipartisan, independent U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom last year and several individual international religious freedom cases, including that of Meriam Yahia Ibrahim, a Sudanese Christian woman who had been sentenced to death for refusing to recant her Christian faith, and her family. His #expressionNOToppression Twitter campaign often highlights cases of religious persecution around the world in an effort to raise awareness and issue calls for action.

The IRF Roundtable is made up of individuals from non-governmental organizations who gather regularly to discuss IRF issues and propose joint advocacy actions to address specific IRF issues and challenges.

The following event is open to the press.
