Jacksonville, FL – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) introduced an amendment to the Fiscal Year (FY) 2018 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) that would require the secretary of defense to submit to Congress a report detailing the damage sustained by Department of Defense (DOD) assets and installations due to hurricanes in 2017. Additionally, the legislation requires DOD to submit a funding request for damage found by the assessment.
“Hurricane Irma has inflicted significant damage to Florida’s communities and military installations alike,” said Rubio. “This bipartisan amendment will provide Congress with the information it needs to ensure our national security assets and capabilities are fully repaired in the wake of these storms. Our military bases and assets in Florida are a key part of protecting America, so this measure is critical not only for our state, but also our nation.”
U.S. Senators Bill Nelson (D-FL), John Cornyn (R-TX), and Ted Cruz (R-TX) are original cosponsors of the measure.
