Rubio Welcomes U.S. Sanctions Targeting a Senior Hizballah Operative Plotting Terrorist Attacks in the Western Hemisphere
Cape Canaveral, FL — U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) issued a statement after the U.S. Treasury Department, pursuant to Executive Order 13224, announced new sanctions against Salman Raouf Salman. Salman is new sanctions against Salman Raouf Salman, a senior member of the Iran-backed Hizballah terrorist group. As a member of Hizballah’s External Security Organization (ESO), Salman has directed the group’s terrorist operations in the Western Hemisphere for decades, including the July 1994 bombing of the Argentine Israelite Mutual Association (AMIA) Jewish Community Center in Buenos Aires, Argentina, that killed 85 innocents and wounded hundreds. Senator Rubio yesterday co-authored a resolution to mark the AMIA bombing’s 25th anniversary and co-led a letter to Attorney General William Barr urging him to help hold accountable the masterminds of the 1994 bombing.

Senator Rubio authored the 2018 sanctions law, the Hizballah International Financing Prevention Amendments Act (Public Law 115-272), with Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Banking Committee Chairman Mike Crapo (R-ID), and Banking Committee Ranking Member Sherrod Brown (D-OH).
