Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Bill Nelson (D-FL) today welcomed passage of a Senate resolution they introduced on February 24 honoring the life and legacy of South Florida community activist Georgia Jones Ayers.

The resolution, which passed unanimously last night, recognizes the lifelong work of Ayers, who passed away on February 17, 2015, and calls on all Floridians to redouble their commitment to their neighbors and their communities.

“Georgia Jones Ayers’ legacy will be evident in South Florida for generations to come, and I’m honored to have been part of this effort to pay tribute to her in the Senate,” said Rubio. “Ms. Jones Ayers dedicated her life to helping at-risk youth in South Florida, a career that touched countless lives and has inspired many others to carry on her work. Georgia will be missed, but her memory and the impact of her work will forever live on.”
