Rubio Votes to Extend Iran Sanctions

Dec 1, 2016 | Press Releases

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) released the following statement today after the Senate passed the Iran Sanctions Extension Act (H.R. 6297), which now heads to President Obama’s desk to be signed into law:

“President Obama’s nuclear deal with Iran has made America less safe. Tehran has exploited it to destabilize the region and expand its nefarious activities, including provocations against the U.S. and Israel.  In its quest for regional domination, over the last year Iran has continued endangering America’s troops and allies, taking American citizens hostage, and using the terrorist group Hizballah to engage in criminal activities they use to fund terrorism and murder the Syrian people.

“Those of us opposed to President Obama’s fundamentally flawed Iran nuclear deal will continue working to undo it.  We will hold Tehran accountable for its actions, and we will work with the incoming administration to roll back this disastrous deal and counter Iran’s aggression. I am pleased the Senate passed the Iran Sanctions Extension Act unanimously, and I urge the president to sign this bill.”
