Senator Rubio Praises Rooney Amendment To Defund EPA Enforcement Of Job-Destroying Mandate
Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Marco Rubio praised Representative Tom Rooney (R-FL) for offering an amendment in the U.S. House of Representatives to defund the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) enforcement of job-destroying and economically harmful numeric nutrient regulations for Florida. The amendment was included in the Continuing Resolution that passed the U.S. House earlier this morning.
Senator Rubio also announced that he will work to ensure that the Continuing Resolution coming out of the U.S. Senate includes language defunding the EPA enforcement of this mandate.
“At a time when our state is facing double-digit unemployment and our families are struggling with the effects of a prolonged recession, the last thing we need is another Washington mandate that will cost billions, destroy jobs and increase daily costs. Small businesses, families and farmers in Florida can’t afford more regulations drafted by bureaucrats in Washington without any consideration for the real world costs or the rights of states,” said Senator Rubio.
“While we continue the work to scrap these regulations, it is imperative that the Senate follow Congressman Rooney’s lead in the U.S. House and defund the EPA’s enforcement of this job-destroying water mandate that will cost billions of dollars. I look forward to working with my colleagues to ensure that we protect Florida’s families from this economically costly Washington mandate.”
During the campaign as part of his plan to help Florida agriculture, Senator Rubio called on the Congress to step-in and ensure that the Florida Department of Environmental Protection has the lead in implementing numeric nutrient standards.
