10 Things Marco Rubio Is Thankful For This Thanksgiving

Nov 26, 2015 | Blog

Every year on the fourth Thursday in November, most Americans set aside their daily routines and devote time to celebrate the many blessings we’ve been given. Thanksgiving is a uniquely American holiday on which we show our gratitude for family, friends and this great nation.
There is always much to be thankful for, but this year, as my family and I gather around the table for Thanksgiving dinner, I’m especially grateful for:

My Family

I always say my most important job isn’t U.S. senator, it’s father and husband. As I look at the faces around my table this Thanksgiving, I am reminded of the unconditional love and support my wife, Jeanette, and children, Amanda, Daniella, Anthony and Dominik, give me throughout the year. I’m grateful to Jeanette for her dedication to our family and to my children for inspiring me to fight for the American Dream and their chance at a life filled with more opportunities than I’ve had.

My Faith in God

Faith has always been an important part of my life. Time and time again, God made His hand visible in my life. I’ve been blessed to be born an American. I’ve been blessed with a strong and stable family, good health, a good education and parents who encouraged me to dream. I’m thankful to God for all these blessings and for His continued guidance and presence in our lives.

The United States of America

I have a debt to America that I will never be able to repay. For me, America isn’t just a country, it’s a place that literally changed the history of my family. It’s a nation of equal opportunity and the most powerful force for good that the world has ever known. I’m thankful to be an American and for the freedoms that come with that incredible blessing.

Our military, veterans and their families

Whether they are in uniform or not, our nation’s heroes surround us every day. Florida alone has over 1.5 million veterans and over a dozen military bases with active duty military men and women stationed throughout the state. Behind each of them are also the military families whose unwavering strength and sacrifices are inspiring to us all, many of whom may not get to spend today with their loved ones. Our military men, women, families and veterans have earned and deserve our full support and gratitude 365 days a year, but especially on this day of Thanksgiving.

Florida

As Americans around the country celebrate Thanksgiving in their coats and scarves, I’m grateful to be enjoying my Thanksgiving in the Sunshine State. Despite a little rain, I’m grateful to call Florida my home and Floridians my neighbors and constituents.

The Miami Dolphins

Every Thanksgiving I’m reminded of the very moment I became a Dolphins fan – my #SinceMoment – when Bob Griese lit up the Cardinals on Thanksgiving Day in 1977. Thirty-eight years later, I still am and always will be thankful to be a Miami Dolphins fan.

Fishing and boating

Being from Florida, my family and I have made some incredible memories fishing and boating on our “luxury speedboat.” The attention it has received this year makes me especially grateful for the good times we’ve had enjoying a couple of our favorite Florida pastimes.

Water Bottles

For always helping me stay hydrated.

The Florida Gators

As my Florida Gators prepare to beat the Florida State Seminoles this Saturday, I am grateful to be a part of the Gator Nation, not only because of my love of football and the Gator Chomp, but also for the incredible education they offer to students – welders, philosophers and U.S. senators alike.

My Lack of size, speed and talent

I always wanted to be in the NFL, but fortunately my lack of size, speed and talent led me to choose another path – a path that led to me becoming a father, a husband, the U.S. senator of Florida and a voice for conservative principles in the 21st century. This Thanksgiving, I’m grateful for all of these roles and the many blessings that have resulted from my lack of NFL-worthy skills.
