Rosh Hashanah

Sep 16, 2012 | Blog

This evening marks the beginning of Rosh Hashanah, a celebration of the Jewish New Year. As Jewish Americans and our Jewish friends around the world prepare to honor their sacred holiday, let us remember to wish them a happy and healthy new year.

Let us also take this opportunity to reflect upon the many great American values and traditions that find their roots in our nation’s Judeo-Christian heritage. While our founding fathers fought hard for the freedoms we treasure in America, they understood that the true source of those freedoms is our Creator. That is the common and universal heritage that unites us as people, and we are blessed to live in a country that enshrines these God-given freedoms into law.

In this time of celebration, prayer, and reflection for the Jewish people, we ask that God’s blessings be felt in the land of Israel and that a real, lasting peace be achieved in that region. As is written in the scriptures, “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: ‘May those who love you be secure,’” (Psalms 122:6). L’shanah tovah u’metukah.
