Rubio, Cotton, Colleagues Call on POTUS to Shun “Green” Tech Stained by Forced Labor
Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senators Marco Rubio (R-FL), Tom Cotton (R-AR), Rick Scott (R-FL), Bill Hagerty (R-TN), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), and John Kennedy (R-LA) issued the following joint statement on “green” products purchased as a part of President Joe Biden’s infrastructure plan.
Earlier this week, Rubio penned an op-ed highlighting how, “[i]f Biden is serious about cutting down the Chinese government and communist party’s ambitions to become the richest, most powerful country in the world, then he needs to wake up to the unintended – but devastating – consequences of this plan.”
Last month, Senators Rubio and Jeff Merkley (D-OR), co-authors of the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act, sent a letter to the President and CEO of Solar Energy Industries Association “to inquire about the integrity of the U.S. solar panel supply chain as it pertains to forced labor in Xinjiang.”
Rubio is a member of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations.
“Products stained with the blood of slave labor will never be clean or green. Any infrastructure proposal from President Biden must bar U.S. taxpayer support of products, like solar panels that are made in camps by Uyghurs and other groups, held hostage by the Chinese Communist Party. The United States government should play no role in subsidizing or partaking in the barbaric treatment of ethnic groups in Xinjiang.”
