English/ Español: Rubio Holds Virtual Meeting With Colombian-American Business Leaders to Discuss the Ongoing Unrest in Colombia
Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) held a virtual meeting with Colombian business leaders who reside in the United States to discuss the impact their respective business sectors are confronting amid national blockades and acts of arson in the nation. During the meeting, Rubio discussed the challenges in Colombia’s flower industry, freight forward industry, palm oil industry, and electrical industry.
Joining Rubio in the meeting with Colombian-American business leaders were Colombia’s Consul General to Miami, Pedro Agustín Valencia Laserna, and Colombian Congressman Juan David Vélez, who is also the President of the Foreign Affairs Commission.
“Following very difficult weeks in Colombia, it’s worrisome to hear about the reality that leaders of the Colombian-American business sectors are facing,” Rubio said. “From acts of vandalism, to blockades and riots, it is clear there is an orchestrated attack against the stability of Colombia’s democratic future. President Biden should make Colombia a top priority and support our most important democratic ally in our region.”
Rubio is Vice Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence and a member of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations.
RUBIO REALIZA REUNIÓN VIRTUAL CON LÍDERES EMPRESARIALES COLOMBO-AMERICANOS PARA HABLAR SOBRE LA SITUACIÓN ACTUAL EN COLOMBIA
Washington, D.C. — El senador estadounidense Marco Rubio (R-FL) sostuvo un encuentro virtual con líderes empresariales colombianos que residen en EE.UU. para discutir el impacto a sus respectivos gremios empresariales en medio de bloqueos nacionales y actos de vandalismo en el país. Durante la reunión, Rubio escuchó de los desafíos en la industria de las flores, la industria de la carga, la industria del aceite de palma y la industria eléctrica de Colombia.
Junto a Rubio en la reunión con líderes empresariales colombo-americanos estaba el Cónsul General de Colombia en Miami, Pedro Agustín Valencia Laserna, y el Congresista de los colombianos en el Exterior Juan David Vélez, que también es el Presidente de la Comisión de Relaciones Exteriores.
“Tras semanas muy difíciles en Colombia, es preocupante conocer la realidad que enfrentan los líderes del sector empresarial colombiano-americano”, Rubio dijo. “Desde actos de vandalismo, hasta bloqueos y disturbios, queda claro que hay un ataque orquestado contra la estabilidad y el futuro democrático de Colombia. El presidente Biden debe poner el tema de Colombia como una prioridad y apoyar a nuestro aliado democrático más importante en nuestra región”.
Rubio es el vicepresidente de la Comisión de Inteligencia del Senado y miembro de la Comisión de Relaciones Exteriores del Senado.
