Rubio, Colleagues Introduce Resolution Recognizing Israel’s Sovereignty Over Golan Heights
Washington, D.C.– U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) joined Senators Ted Cruz (R-TX), Tom Cotton (R-AR) and Congressman Mike Gallagher (R-WI) in introducing companion bills establishing that it shall be the policy of the United States to recognize Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights. The United States has been committed for over 40 years to ensuring Israel’s security from attacks emanating from across the Golan Heights. The threat Iran poses to America and Israel requires acknowledging the reality of Israel’s control over the territory as a matter of national security.
The bill was also co-sponsored by Senators Kevin Cramer (R-ND), and Lindsey Graham (R-SC), and Representatives Brian Mast (R-FL), Doug Lamborn (R-CO), Jim Banks (R-IN), Elise Stefanik (R-NY), Tom Cole (R-OK), Mark Meadows (R-NC), Bill Johnson (R-OH), Scott Perry (R-PA), Roger Marshall (R-KS), Mark Green (R-TN), Lee Zeldin (R-NY), Ted Budd (R-NC), and Jody Hice (R-GA).
The bill states in part that “it is in the United States national security interest to ensure that Israel retains control of the Golan Heights [and that] the Syrian regime of Bashar al-Assad faces diplomatic and geopolitical consequences for its killing of civilians, the ethnic cleansing of Arab Sunnis, and the use of weapons of mass destruction.”
