Rubio Named Top Republican Of Senate Subcommittee On Oceans, Atmosphere, Fisheries & Coast Guard
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL), today announced his subcommittee assignments as a member of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation. During this 113th Congress, Rubio will serve as Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Oceans, Atmosphere, Fisheries, and Coast Guard. He will also be a member of the Subcommittee on Aviation Operations, Safety, and Security; Subcommittee on Communications, Technology, and the Internet; Subcommittee on Science and Space; and Subcommittee on Surface Transportation and Merchant Marine Infrastructure, Safety, and Security.
“I am proud to continue my role in the Commerce Committee and look forward to working on the many issues it oversees, including many of interest to Florida,” said Rubio. “As ranking member of the subcommittee, I look forward to working on the reauthorization of the Magnuson Stevens Act, as well as ensuring the regulatory system for our fishing and seafood industry is based on sound science and not overburdened by costly and unnecessary policies that destroy jobs and discourage growth. It is vital we preserve the waters surrounding Florida in a responsible manner for the fishermen, families and sportsmen who not only depend on them but also enjoy them.
“As Florida continues to adapt during our space program’s time of transition, I want to ensure that America is the preeminent leader in space, with a thriving commercial space industry to support it and the skilled workforce that can do the job,” added Rubio. “Lastly, aviation issues overseen by this committee are of critical importance to our state given our thriving aviation industry that’s become a leading exporter as well as being the home of several high-volume airports, including a key hub in Miami.”
