Rubio, Ros-Lehtinen Bill Promoting Human Rights in North Korea Heads to President’s Desk

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) today applauded House passage of the North Korean Human Rights Reauthorization Act, legislation authored by U.S. Representative Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) and Rubio to update and reauthorize the 2004 law promoting human rights and freedom in North Korea. The bill now heads to the president’s desk to be signed into law.

“The Kim regime systematically and ruthlessly terrorizes its own citizens, denying them their most basic freedoms,” Rubio said. “This bipartisan bill makes clear our commitment to prioritizing and defending human rights in North Korea and I look forward to President Trump signing it into law soon. In the weeks ahead, it is critical that the United States hold the North Korean regime accountable for its abuses, including its extensive political prison camps, and engaging in abductions, torture, forced starvation, and sexual violence against women.
