English/Español: During Trip to Ecuador, Rubio meets with American Chamber of Commerce and Local Business Leaders
As Latin America and the Caribbean turn towards left-leaning anti-American governments, Ecuador remains an important strategic ally for our nation and the stability of the region.
U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) met with the American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM) and local business leaders in Ecuador’s export industry to discuss strengthening trade and commercial ties, and the need to increase cooperation on security matters.
In December of last year, Rubio welcomed the inclusion of his bipartisan United States-Ecuador Partnership Act of 2022 in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2023. The bill, co-led by Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ), requires a comprehensive diplomatic strategy to strengthen U.S.-Ecuador cooperation on issues of mutual interest, including strengthening democratic institutions, promoting inclusive economic growth, supporting conservation initiatives, and expanding capabilities to address corruption, crime, and malign foreign influence.
