English/Español: Rubio Commemorates 27th Anniversary of the ’13th of March’ Tugboat Massacre

Jul 13, 2021 | Press Releases

Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) issued the following statement honoring the 41 victims of the “13th of March” Tugboat Massacre, who died at the hands of the Castro dictatorship on July 13, 1994.

“Today, as we solemnly commemorate the barbaric sinking of the ’13th of March’ Tugboat, we are reminded of the aspirations they valiantly sought and their desire to reach the land of the free. The historic events in Cuba this past weekend remind us that the spirit of freedom still flourishes in the lives of everyday Cubans. I join the Cuban-American exile community, and the people in Cuba, as we commemorate the 41 lives that were senselessly lost in this massacre.”

Rubio is the Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Western Hemisphere, Transnational Crime, Civilian Security, Democracy, Human Rights, and Global Women’s Issues.
