Senate to Vote on Rubio Amendment to Block Costly Biden Housing Regulations

Oct 24, 2023 | Comunicados de Prensa

Housing affordability is at a 40-year low, but the Biden Administration’s new home energy standards would add tens of thousands of dollars to the cost of a new home.

The pending regulations would impose strict new energy standards on new homes that are financed with  U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) programs, including Federal Housing Administration-insured mortgages. The rules would have wide-ranging consequences, including reduced housing affordability, fewer new homes, and less flexibility for states to develop housing codes that make sense for their unique climates.

  • “Families all across the country are struggling. The last thing we should do is make the cost of housing more expensive. My amendment aims to protect American families from misguided bureaucrats in Washington, D.C. With housing affordability at a 40-year low, this should be an easy decision. Thankfully, everyone will be able to see where their senators stand.” – senador Rubio
