Senator Rubio Welcomes House Republican Budget As Serious First Step To Tackle Debt

Apr 7, 2011 | Comunicados de Prensa

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio issued the following statement regarding the House Republican budget plan announced today by Chairman Paul Ryan:

“Chairman Ryan’s budget plan offers an important first step toward tackling our debt crisis and boosting our economy. While it significantly cuts spending, it is also a pro-growth prescription and outlines fundamental policies that will help create jobs, which is essential to reining in our debt. This is a serious proposal, worthy of a real in-depth debate about how we are going to boost our economy, save our safety net programs, and tackle our debt crisis.

“While the coming weeks and months will give us time to study it more closely, it is safe to say that Chairman Ryan’s budget is head and shoulders above the President’s unserious budget, which keeps on recklessly spending money we don’t have. I especially commend Chairman Ryan for stepping up to lead, knowing fully well that doing so invites attacks from self-serving politicians who care most about winning elections, even if it means losing the essence of our exceptional country.

“In their short time in the majority, House Republicans have worked diligently to pass the budget Democrats failed to pass last year, avoid a government shutdown and move beyond nickel-and-dime budgeting to a serious policy-making process that will put America on a fiscally responsible path. I hope the President and Senate Democrats finally get serious about ending this practice of spending money we don’t have.”
