English/Español: Rubio Comments on Reappointment of Díaz-Canel

Oct 11, 2019 | Comunicados de Prensa

Miami, FL – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) issued the following statement following the reappointment of Miguel Díaz-Canel in Cuba:

“Díaz-Canel, Raúl Castro’s puppet, will continue serving as Cuba’s ‘oppressor-in-chief’. After a sham ‘election’ last year, Díaz-Canel will continue being the face of an oppressive regime that violates human rights and undermines democratic order in our region. No one should be fooled, Cuba’s one-party political system is an enemy of democracy. If Castro truly wanted a democratic future for the island, he would allow the Cuban people to have free, fair, and multi-party elections.”

Rubio is the Chairman of the Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Western Hemisphere, Transnational Crime, Civilian Security, Democracy, Human Rights, and Global Women’s Issues.
