Rubio Praises Army Corps Plan that Prioritizes Florida Projects
Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) praised the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers 2020 Work Plan, which includes critically important projects for the State of Florida.
“Everglades Restoration is the single best way to improve Florida’s water quality and environment,” Rubio said. “The President’s continued and growing commitment to this project is critical to our state, and the commitment to our ports will ensure they remain world class. I will continue to work with the administration and use my role on the spending committee to ensure we continue to deliver for Florida.”
Specifically, the U.S. Army Corps 2020 Work Plan commits:
Construction:
- $235 million for construction of the South Florida Ecosystem Restoration (SFER) program, an increase of more than $130.4 Million from 2019.
- $57.5 million for continued deepening of Jacksonville Harbor.
- $29.1 million for a new construction start to deepen Port Everglades Harbor.
- $7.5 million for Fort Pierce Beach Re-nourishment.
- $5 million in reimbursements to the municipalities of Key Largo, Islamorada, and Marathon for water quality improvement projects.
- $1.297 million for Lido Key shore protection project.
Operations and Maintenance:
- $8.5 million for Tampa Harbor dredging and maintenance.
- $13.8 million for South Florida Ecosystem Restoration (SFER) for Endangered Species Act requirements.
- $8 million for Canaveral Harbor, FL for general operation and maintenance. Also for Hurricane Dorian navigation mitigation dredging activities in Brevard County and inspection and repairs of the Canaveral Lock Western and Eastern sector gates.
- $22 million for Central and Southern Florida, for assessments and inspection at Herbert Hoover Dike, critical hurricane improvements of S-77, revision of the LORS, and to replace the septic system at Buildings SF-1 and SF-2 with municipal sanitary sewer connection. Funds will also be used to meet hurricane standards for the W.P. Franklin Lock control building.
- $6.55 million for Fernandina Harbor, FL for dredging activities.
- $5.1 million for Intracoastal Highway, Jacksonville to Miami.
- $13.3 million for Jacksonville Harbor maintenance and dredging.
- $8.2 million for Jim Woodruff Lock and Dam, Lake Seminole, FL.
- $2.73 million for Manatee Harbor, FL.
- $2.6 million for Miami, FL for O&M and Donor and Energy Transfer Port.
- $3 million for Okeechobee Waterway, FL for O&M, periodic inspection of St. Lucie Lock and Dam, and develop the plans and specifications for the St. Lucie Gate Repairs.
- $3.97 million for Palm Beach Harbor, FL for O&M and dredging.
- $3.85 million for Panama City Harbor, FL for jetty rehabilitation required as a result of Hurricane Michael damages.
- $587,000 for Port Everglades Harbor maintenance.
- $1.275 million for Project Condition Surveys in Florida.
- $3.41 million for the removal of aquatic growth.
- $1.17 million for inspection of flood risk management projects.
- $120,000 for Scheduling Reservoir operations.
- $45,000 for Escambia and Conecuh Rivers, FL & AL.
