Rubio, Nelson Urge FEMA to Extend Program for Displaced Hurricane Irma Victims
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Bill Nelson (D-FL) today urged Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Administrator Brock Long to work with the state of Florida to extend FEMA’s Transitional Shelter Assistance (TSA) program for Floridians affected by Hurricane Irma.
El texto de la carta en inglés está aquí. is below:
Dear Administrator Long:
We write to express our gratitude for the authorized extension of FEMA’s Transitional Shelter Assistance (TSA) program on January 7, 2018 to February 10, 2018. This extension provided much needed stability to displaced Floridians. Unfortunately, for many Floridians, the recovery process is still ongoing and many families are still unable to return to their homes. Therefore, we respectfully request that you work with the state of Florida to extend the period of TSA for Floridians affected by Hurricane Irma.
We realize that TSA is designed to provide short-term lodging assistance, but there are parts of Florida, such as Monroe County and southwest Florida, where it is still not possible for residents to return to their homes.
We have heard from constituents across the state who are requesting that TSA be extended so they are provided some stability during an extremely difficult time. While hurricane season has ended, the recovery process is far from complete, and the federal government must continue to play an active role. Therefore, we request that the federal government continue to work with the state to ensure the safety and security of displaced Floridians.
Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.
Atentamente,
