Rubio, Risch, Menendez, Scott, Kaine Met Venezuela’s First Lady Fabiana Rosales de Guaidó
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Marco Rubio (R-FL), Jim Risch (R-ID), Bob Menendez (D-NJ), Rick Scott (R-FL) and Tim Kaine (D-VA) today met with Venezuela’s First Lady Fabiana Rosales de Guaidó, wife of Interim President Juan Guaidó. The First Lady was joined by Romy Moreno de Marrero and Belén Romero, wife and sister respectively of illegally detained Chief of Staff, Roberto Marrero.
A broadcast quality video of the meeting can be found here and a message from Senator Rubio following his meeting with First Lady Rosales de Guiado can be found here.
“I was honored to welcome and host Venezuela’s First Lady Fabiana Rosales de Guaidó and relatives of imprisoned Roberto Marrero, Rubio said. At a critical point in Venezuela’s history, First Lady Rosales de Guaido brings an inspiring message of hope and strength as her country faces many challenges towards the restoration of democratic order.”
“It was a privilege to meet with First Lady Guaido, and to share with her our support for her husband as the legitimate president of Venezuela,” Risch said. “As Cuban and Russian forces work to embolden Maduro, making a bad situation potentially much worse, it’s more important than ever to share the message that the American people continue to stand with the Guiados and the people of Venezuela.”
“As Venezuela continues to suffer under Maduro’s self-made humanitarian crisis, Ms. Rosales is a tireless voice speaking out in defense of the fundamental freedoms and the well-being of the Venezuelan people,” Menendez said. “While Maduro expands his crude campaign of repression with the kidnapping of Roberto Marrero, Interim President Guaidó’s chief of staff, Ms. Rosales was clear with us today in saying the Venezuelan people will not be intimidated. I am encouraged by her strength and determination, and expressed my commitment to maintain the international community united in our efforts to hold Maduro accountable for the crimes he has committed against his own people.”
“The United States stands strong against the ruthless dictatorship of Maduro, and I thank Venezuela’s First Lady Fabiana Rosales de Guaidó for meeting with us today as we continue to support Venezuela in the fight for freedom and democracy,” Scott said.
“I’m grateful to have had the chance to sit down with Venezuela’s First Lady and relatives of Robert Marrero today,” Kaine said. “Maduro has created a massive humanitarian crisis, causing so much pain for the Venezuelan people. The United stands with the Venezuelan people as they strive for peace, liberty, and democracy.”
Members of the Venezuelan Interim Government’s leadership accompanied the First Lady and Marrero’s relatives, including Venezuelan Ambassador to the United States Carlos Vecchio, Coordinator of the OAS Working Group David Smolansky, the Coordinator of Humanitarian Aid Lester Toledo, and others.
