Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL), the chairman of the Senate Subcommittee on Oceans, Atmosphere, Fisheries, and Coast Guard, issued the following statement regarding the U.S. Coast Guard’s announcement that it will suspend its active search for missing El Faro crew members at sunset:
“I join the crew members’ families and loved ones in mourning this devastating loss. My thoughts and prayers are with them and those lost at sea.
“I want to thank the U.S. Coast Guard, Navy and Air Force for conducting an exhaustive search under difficult circumstances. As the National Transportation Safety Board’s investigation continues, I’m hopeful we can learn more about what happened so we can avoid future tragedies.”
