On The Anniversary of the Bay of Pigs
Fifty-one years ago, the brave men in Brigade 2506 were given orders to invade a little known place in Cuba, the Bay of Pigs. The Brigade’s members conducted themselves with unbelievable bravery and fought valiantly until the last bullet. Their story did not end on the beaches and swamps surrounding the Bay of Pigs. The true testament of these men is their unwavering commitment to freedom.
Each year, surviving members of the Brigade gather to remember their fallen comrades and reaffirm their commitment to a free Cuba. While their lives have moved on since that fateful day, with many having gone on to raise their families and build businesses, they continue to share an undying desire to see democracy and freedom for their brothers and sisters in Cuba. Their commitment is a true inspiration.
There aren’t enough words to express the sense of appreciation and gratitude I have for the veterans of the Bay of Pigs for their example of dignity and honor. As we commemorate another year and recognize their sacrifices, I want to take a moment to say thank you. The best way we can show our gratitude is to emulate Brigade 2506’s commitment to freedom and democracy.
