World Alzheimer’s Action Day
Today, we recognize the global fight against Alzheimer’s disease and join together to raise awareness for and reduce the stigma surrounding this illness. I would also like to show my support for the 5.4 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s disease and their families and friends who stand with them in that fight.
Alzheimer’s disease is now the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States, affecting one in eight Americans age 65 or older and half of the American population over the age of 85. Estimates show that by the year 2050, up to 16 million Americans could be living with this disease, yet we currently have no way to prevent, cure or even slow it down. By raising awareness, I hope we can come one step closer to finding preventative measures, treatments and, eventually, a cure for Alzheimer’s disease.
Please join me today, on World Alzheimer’s Action Day, and “Go Purple” for Alzheimer’s disease.
