ICYMI: Rubio Joins The Clay Travis & Buck Sexton Show
U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) joined The Clay Travis & Buck Sexton Show to discuss what should be prioritized by the government. See below for highlights and listen to the full interview here.
On what Republicans should seek to accomplish in the federal government:
“By far, the single [biggest] issue, it’s a generational issue, that we face in the country, in the world, is that the unipolar era, the era of globalization, is over. We’re entering a new world. We have a near-peer competitor adversary in China. It is the most powerful adversary and competitor America has ever faced. We need to realign everything we do, from where we make medicine to where we get our food and where we get our energy to how we approach geopolitics and alliances. Everything has to be restructured.
“I think that’s something there can be a lot of bipartisan support around. We need a president who guides that strategy, and [we need to] have a Senate of people that are very supportive of that, and that includes our economy. There are issues, that from a pure market standpoint, might be the right decision. [For example,] it might be cheaper to make something in China, but it’s not good for America. It’s dangerous. Things like that. I think you have to have presidential vision and leadership, and then you have to have majorities that will pursue it.
“From a practical standpoint, [the most important thing] is all these appointments and nominations…. Some of the people that Biden has nominated and gotten through are just insane people, and some are just completely unqualified.
“Pete Buttigieg is an embarrassment. The guy’s just pathetic. The guy was the mayor of a city that’s smaller than some condo buildings in Florida. He gets promoted to Transportation Secretary. He’s got planes crashing into each other on the ground, trains derailing, and the guy’s on paternity leave for three months at a time. He’s just a pathetic embarrassment. He’s one of the more competent ones compared to some of the other people that they put in place.
“The ability to put good people in good positions is critical. The Senate does that through the nomination process. The China issue is by far the singular issue I think is going to dominate how you define the 21st century. We’re already behind. We are playing catch-up on trying to get that right.”
