As Tropical Storm Colin Approaches, Rubio Urges Floridians To Prepare

Jun 6, 2016 | Comunicados de Prensa

Rubio: “It’s not a question of ‘if,’ it’s a question of ‘when’ we’re going to have another major storm in the state, and I hope those of us are getting ready for it.”

Washington, D.C. – During a press availability in Orlando today, U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) made the following comments about Tropical Storm Colin:

“I know that state officials are on top of [Tropical Storm Colin]. Obviously it’s a tropical storm so it’s going to rain a lot, but I would say two things: the National Hurricane Center is a blessing to this country. They do a phenomenal job. For the first time now, they’re going to have storm surge capabilities. People living far inland may not realize more people die because of water in a hurricane than because of winds. So I hope people will take those precautions as a new tool is made available.

“I think this tropical storm is a reminder that we’ve been very fortunate over the last decade. But it’s not a question of ‘if,’ it’s a question of ‘when’ we’re going to have another major storm in the state, and I hope those of us are getting ready for it.”
