Miami, FL — U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Congresswoman Jenniffer González-Colón (R-PR) released the following statements after the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced that “funding through Stage 2 of the Uniendo a Puerto Rico Fund will result in all locations in Puerto Rico having access to fixed broadband service with speeds of at least 100 Mbps.”
“The FCC’s recent announcement about the Stage 2 Competitive Process is welcomed news,” Rubio said. “This important step to closing the digital divide will provide our fellow Americans in Puerto Rico with access to next-generation broadband internet. I will continue working with my colleagues to advance initiatives in support of the Puerto Rican people.”
“Today’s announcement continues to evidence the commitment made by Chairman Ajit Pai to assist in the recovery of our communications in Puerto Rico, not just by restoring what was there before, but in finally providing up to date connectivity in all our municipalities. This support for expanded access, in partnership with private sector network providers comes at a critical time as so much of our educational and business activity has moved online and will open greater opportunities for our residents and businesses,” González-Colón said.

Miami, FL – El senador estadounidense Marco Rubio (R-FL) y la congresista Jenniffer González-Colón (R-PR) emitieron las siguientes declaraciones luego que la Comisión Federal de Comunicaciones de EE.UU. (FCC, por sus siglas en inglés) anunciara que “el financiamiento a través de la Etapa 2 de Uniendo a Puerto Rico, brindara a todas las locaciones en la isla acceso al servicio de internet de banda ancha y con velocidades de al menos 100 Mbps ”.
“El reciente anuncio de la FCC sobre el proceso competitivo de la Etapa 2 es una buena noticia”, Rubio dijo. “Este es un paso importante para cerrar la brecha digital y le proporcionará a nuestros connacionales estadounidenses en Puerto Rico el acceso a internet de banda ancha de la próxima generación. Seguiré trabajando con mis colegas para avanzar iniciativas en apoyo del pueblo de Puerto Rico”.
“El anuncio de hoy continúa evidenciando el compromiso asumido por el presidente Ajit Pai de ayudar en la recuperación de nuestras comunicaciones en Puerto Rico, no solo restaurando lo que había antes, sino finalmente brindando conectividad actualizada en todos nuestros municipios. Este apoyo a la ampliación del acceso, en asociación con proveedores de la red del sector privado llega en un momento crítico mientras gran parte de nuestra actividad educativa y empresarial se ha movido a la virtualidad y les abrirá mayores oportunidades a nuestros residentes y negocios”, González-Colón dijo.
