As the Ortega-Murillo authoritarian dynasty mimics its shameless 2018 assaults against Nicaraguans and the Catholic Church, U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) condemned the regime’s ongoing wave of repression.  

  • “Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo have perfected the art of religious persecution. 
  • “The regime’s periodic attacks against the Catholic Church throughout Nicaragua and acts of arson against Managua’s Cathedral by the regime’s Sandinista forces are barbaric. The expulsion of the Missionaries of Charity and censorship of religious radio stations are vile. And the arrests of members of the clergy, including Bishop Rolando Álvarez’s arrest this morning, are unacceptable.

 

  • “The United States should use the authorities granted by the 2018 NICA Act and the 2021 RENACER Act, which I wrote with Senator Menendez, to punish regime officials responsible for these crimes and to suspend trade benefits granted by the Central American Free Trade Agreement.” — Senator Rubio

 

RUBIO: NUEVA OLA REPRESIVA DE ORTEGA ES BÁRBARICA 
 

Mientras la dinastía autoritaria de Ortega y Murillo imita sus previos ataques del 2018 contra los nicaragüenses y la Iglesia Católica, el senador estadounidense Marco Rubio (R -FL) condenó la continua ola de represión del régimen.  
 

  • “Daniel Ortega y Rosario Murillo han perfeccionado el arte de la persecución religiosa. 

 

  • “Los ataques contra la Iglesia Católica en toda Nicaragua y el criminal incendio en contra de la Catedral de Managua por parte de las fuerzas sandinistas del régimen son bárbaricos. La expulsión de las Misioneras de la Caridad y la censura de las estaciones radiales religiosas son viles. Y, los arrestos de miembros del clero, incluyendo el arresto del obispo Rolando Álvarez esta mañana, son inaceptables.

 

  • “EE.UU. debería usar las facultades que le otorgan la Ley NICA y la Ley RENACER, la cual escribí con el Senador Menéndez, para sancionar a los funcionarios del régimen responsables de estos delitos. También debemos suspender los beneficios comerciales otorgados por el Tratado de Libre Comercio entre Centroamérica y EE.UU”. — Senador Rubio
