Miami, FL — U.S. Senators Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Jim Risch (R-ID), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, released the following statement after the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), pursuant to Executive Order (E.O.) 13851, designated two senior members of the Nicaraguan regime:
“We welcome the designation of Julio César Avilés Castillo, the Commander-in-Chief of the Nicaraguan Army, and Iván Adolfo Acosta Montalván, the Ortega regime’s Minister of Finance. Both men are being sanctioned for their links to the Ortega regime and for propping up a dictator who has repeatedly undermined democracy, human rights, and Nicaragua’s rule of law. The United States of America is holding accountable those individuals who pose a threat to the democratic order of our hemisphere. The Nicaraguan people’s fight for freedom from oppression will continue to be a priority in the U.S. Senate.”
Rubio is Chairman of the Subcommittee on Western Hemisphere, Transnational Crime, Civilian Security, Democracy, Human Rights, and Global Women’s Issues.
Miami, FL — Los senadores estadounidenses Marco Rubio (R-FL), Jim Risch (R-ID), presidente del Comité de Relaciones Exteriores del Senado, emitieron el siguiente comunicado después que la Oficina de Control de Activos Extranjeros (OFAC) del Departamento del Tesoro de EE.UU., en conformidad con la Orden Ejecutiva (E.O.) 13851, designara a dos miembros de alto rango del régimen nicaragüense:
“Elogiamos la designaciones de Julio César Avilés Castillo, Comandante del Ejército de Nicaragua, y de Iván Adolfo Acosta Montalván, Ministro de Finanzas del régimen de Ortega. Ambos hombres están siendo sancionados por sus vínculos con el régimen de Daniel Ortega y por ayudar a un dictador que ha socavado, en reiteradas ocasiones, la democracia, los derechos humanos y el estado de derecho en Nicaragua. Los Estados Unidos seguirá responsabilizando a las personas que representan una amenaza para el orden democrático de nuestro hemisferio. La lucha del pueblo nicaragüense por liberarse de la opresión continuará siendo una prioridad en el Senado de los Estados Unidos”.
Rubio es el presidente del Subcomité de Relaciones Exteriores para el Hemisferio Occidental, Delincuencia Transnacional, Seguridad Civil, Democracia, Derechos Humanos y Asuntos Globales de la Mujer.
