PHOTOS: Rubio Discusses Education in the 21st Century at FAMU

Mar 27, 2018 | Comunicados de Prensa

Tallahassee, FL – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) today visited Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) to discuss education in the 21st century with President Larry Robinson and students.

As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Rubio pushed for increased funding for HBCUs (Historically Black College and Universities) and Minority Serving Institutions by $106 million. Additionally, the recently passed funding bill increased funding for campus-based aid programs, and NIH funding that will help provide more opportunities for FAMU to compete for research grants.

“I enjoyed meeting with FAMU President Robinson and students on campus today to discuss a 21st century higher education system that embraces all the new ways of learning and to hear about the exciting advancements happening at FAMU,” said Rubio. “I am proud to have pushed for critical financial resources in the 2018 omnibus that will help FAMU students with college affordability and provide them with increased research opportunities. I remain committed to ensuring FAMU and other Florida universities remain leaders of cutting edge innovation and research.”
