Rubio Applauds Committee Passage of Resolution Honoring Victims of Hezbollah Terrorist Attacks Against Argentina’s Jewish Community

Dec 7, 2022 | Comunicados de Prensa

Home to the largest Jewish community in Latin America, Argentina has endured multiple terrorist attacks orchestrated by Iranian-backed Hezbollah mercenaries. On March 17, 1992, a truck with explosives detonated at the Embassy of Israel in Buenos Aires. 29 lives were lost, and more than 200 people were wounded.

Then, on July 18, 1994, a car bomb exploded at the Argentine Israelite Mutual Association (AMIA) Jewish Community Center building in Buenos Aires. 85 people died, and more than 300 others were wounded. The attack against the AMIA remains the deadliest terrorist attack in Argentina’s history, and the perpetrators of both attacks have yet to face justice for their crimes.

As a posthumous tribute to the fallen victims, the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations has passed U.S. Senator Marco Rubio’s (R-FL) bipartisan resolution. Senators Bob Menendez (D-NJ), Tom Cotton (R-AR), Ben Cardin (D-MD), Tim Kaine (D-VA), and Chris Coons (D-DE) are original cosponsors.
