Rubio Applauds Senate Passage of Landmark Everglades Legislation
Washington, D.C. – The U.S. Senate just passed landmark Everglades restoration and water quality improvement legislation known as the Central Everglades Planning Project (CEPP). As part of the Water Resources and Development Act (WRDA), the project passed today by a vote of 95-3 with Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) voting in favor.
“Getting this Central Everglades Planning Project passed has been many years in the making, but it has taken on added urgency this year because of the toxic algae that is hurting our state. This Everglades project is one piece of the puzzle to dealing with the toxic algae, and we have more work to continue doing on that front,” said Rubio. “Senator Bill Nelson and I have done our part in getting this important Everglades restoration and water quality improvement project passed in the Senate, and now it’s time for the House to follow suit and get it passed into law.”
The Everglades project, as part of the larger water bill, now awaits House action.
