Rubio Comments On Administration’s Announcement Of National Saltwater Recreational Fisheries Policy

Feb 12, 2015 | Comunicados de Prensa

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL), the chairman of the Senate’s Subcommittee on Oceans, Atmosphere, Fisheries and Coast Guard, issued the following statement regarding the Obama Administration’s announcement today of its National Saltwater Recreational Fisheries Policy:

“Recreational fishing is both an economic engine in Florida and something people from all over the world come to do here year-round. I appreciate the administration finally recognizing this important industry. National fisheries policy requires a careful balance between all stakeholders. However, for too long, management of our fisheries has focused solely on the management needs of the commercial industry. I appreciate the efforts by the authors of the Morris-Deal report, which highlighted the gap in recognizing the needs of recreational fishermen. I stand ready to assist in my role as senator to ensure that we work toward a management system that works for all, including our vibrant recreational fishing community.”
