Rubio Comments On Expansion Of “Pay As You Earn” Program
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) today commented on the Obama Administration’s expansion of the “Pay As You Earn” program:
“Today’s announcement to allow more Americans to repay their federal student loans through the Pay As You Earn program is the wrong solution for helping borrowers. The Department of Education’s multiple student loan repayment programs remain overly complex, administratively complicated and continue to offer generous forgiveness that may be fiscally unsustainable in years ahead.
“A better, more fiscally responsible approach is the Dynamic Student Loan Repayment Act, which I have proposed with Senator Mark Warner to simplify income-based repayment programs and make it the automatic method for paying back these federal loans. Students should be able to repay their loans at an affordable pace with manageable payments based on their current income, while eliminating the need to file burdensome paperwork and making income-based repayment fiscally sustainable and fair.”
