Rubio Comments on New Head of UN World Intellectual Property Organization

Mar 5, 2020 | Comunicados de Prensa

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) released the following statement after Daren Tang of Singapore won the nomination to be the director general of the World Intellectual Property Organization:

“I want to commend the Trump Administration, specifically our State Department diplomats, for their successful efforts to ensure the World Intellectual Property Organization is governed according to the values for which it stands. The protection of intellectual property is a foundational component of American and international prosperity. In an ever more competitive global economy, we cannot allow nation-states and state-directed companies to undermine our economy through espionage and the corruption of global standards.

I would like to congratulate Daren Tang of Singapore on his nomination to direct the World Intellectual Property Organization.”

Rubio is Cochair of the bipartisan and bicameral Congressional-Executive Commission on China (CECC), as well as a member of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations and the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.
