Rubio Introduces Bill to Reauthorize Hong Kong Human Rights Democracy Act

Jun 5, 2024 | Comunicados de Prensa

The Chinese Communist Party and Hong Kong government officials are responsible for the continued erosion of Hong Kong’s autonomy and an increase of human rights violations.

El Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act, which U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) led and was signed into law in 2019, is set to expire later this year. Accordingly, Rubio introduced the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Reauthorization Act of 2024 to ensure continued U.S. support to citizens facing oppression from Communist China and Hong Kong officials.

  • “Following President Trump’s enactment of the original 2019 law, Congress should immediately reauthorize this important program. This reauthorization is a crucial demonstration of our nation’s steadfast support for the people of Hong Kong who are fighting for their basic freedoms and autonomy.” – senador Rubio
