Rubio Statement on DOD Niger Ambush Report
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) released the following statement today after the Department of Defense (DOD) released a report on the Niger ambush on American and Nigerian soldiers in October 2017 that resulted in the death of four American members of a U.S. Special Operations Forces (USSOF) team, including Sgt. Johnson of Miami Gardens, FL:
“We owe a great debt to Sergeant La David Johnson, Sergeant First Class Jeremiah Johnson, Staff Sergeant Bryan Black and Staff Sergeant Dustin Wright. The families of these soldiers who died in our service deserve answers to what happened, and these lessons need to be implemented so that this never happens again. While it is positive that the Department of Defense is refining training and operational procedures, it will never make up for the multitude of mistakes that cost the lives of these brave, young Americans. To the extent that there were command failures, I urge the DOD to consider disciplinary action.”
