Gainesville Sun: Rubio Tells Blue Key: America’s Greatness At Stake
America is at a crossroads in which it will either find a way to remain exceptional and unique or become a country whose best years are in the past, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio told members of Florida Blue Key Saturday night at the University of Florida.
The Miami Republican, elected to the U.S. Senate in November, gave a speech that was free of partisan politics at the Blue Key banquet in the Grand Ballroom of the Reitz Union.
“Now the question we are facing is who we want to be for the next 100 years … Are we willing to do what it takes to remain exceptional and unique?” Rubio asked. “These problems don’t solve themselves or go away on their own. They have to be confronted. If they are not confronted and solved now, right away, we have no chance in the next century of being the great American century like the last one was.”
Rubio, a former state representative and House speaker who is a UF graduate, said the nation is threatened by the national debt and the coming insolvency of Social Security and Medicare.
