Rubio Urges Full Accountability for Jamal Khashoggi’s Assassination
Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) today released the following statement after Secretary of State Mike Pompeo designated sixteen Saudi nationals involved in the murder of Saudi journalist and Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi. The State Department’s designation makes these individuals and their immediate family members ineligible to enter the United States:
“While I’m glad the Administration belatedly designated for new visa bans Saud al-Qahtani and other individuals complicit in Jamal Khashoggi’s assassination at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, I urge it to comply fully with the Global Magnitsky Act’s legal requirements and, in response to a formal November 2018 congressional request, make its overdue determination about Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s responsibility in Khashoggi’s brutal murder.”
Senator Rubio first urged President Trump to launch a Global Magnitsky investigation into Jamal Khashoggi’s disappearance in October 2018.
