Rubio Votes To Balance Federal Budget In Ten Years
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio issued the following statement regarding his vote last night in favor of an amendment, defeated by Senate Democrats, to require that the Senate Democrat budget balance in ten years:
“We can’t keep running the federal government on deficit spending that grows our debt, overwhelms our entrepreneurs with uncertainty that holds back job creation, and limits opportunities for the middle class,” said Rubio. “The Senate Democrat budget is an irresponsible joke of a public policy that proposes over a trillion dollars in job-killing tax increases and makes no attempt to balance the budget.
“The American people deserve to have their tax dollars used responsibly, a goal that requires a disciplined plan that balances our budget by promoting economic growth and slowing Washington’s spending. We need serious solutions to save our Medicare and Social Security programs, which are the biggest drivers of our long-term debt, and we can do it without affecting current retirees like my mom or those who are close to retiring.
“Unfortunately, achieving these goals is an uphill climb in the Senate where Democrats can’t even get behind efforts to stop Washington from spending more money than it takes in.”
