Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) welcomed the House of Representative’s passage of his and Senator Bill Nelson’s (D-FL) bipartisan bill to rename the Hobe Sound National Wildlife Refuge in Martin County, Florida after one of the state’s most renowned environmental champions, Nathaniel “Nat” Reed. Reed, who passed away in July at the age of 84, was a well-known and respected champion of restoring Florida’s Everglades. Reed’s legacy includes protecting Big Cypress Swamp and successfully guiding the Endangered Species Act of 1973 through Congress and into law. The bill passed the Senate unanimously on December 19, 2018. It now heads to the President for signature.

It is a fitting tribute that the Hobe Sound National Wildlife Refuge, where his passion for nature was first inspired, be named in his honor.”
