Senator Marco Rubio Announces Staff Changes
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) today announced changes to his communications staff in his Senate office.
Olivia Perez-Cubas, who has worked for Rubio since 2013, most recently as communications director, leaves to pursue opportunities outside Congress. Three press secretaries covering Florida, domestic and national policy, and Spanish and foreign policy, will take over her press responsibilities. Nick Iacovella will join the communications team as press secretary for domestic and national issues.
“For the past five years, Olivia has been a key part of the team,” said Rubio. “She was one of the first hires on my presidential campaign, traveled all over Florida with me during my Senate campaign, and ultimately came back to Washington to lead our communications efforts in the Senate. I am grateful for her distinguished service to the United States Senate and the people of Florida, and wish her the very best in her new opportunity.”
ADDITIONAL BACKGROUND ON TODAY’S STAFF ANNOUNCEMENTS
Nick Iacovella: A Florida native, Iacovella will join the communications team as press secretary for domestic and national issues. He brings a wealth of policy and communications experience to the team, serving most recently as the press secretary and spokesman for Bob Hugin’s Senate race. Previously, he worked for Heritage Action for America and multiple years in the United States House of Representatives, where he did a mix of legislative work and communications.
Arielle Mueller: Mueller, most recently Rubio’s deputy press secretary in the Senate office, will be press secretary for Florida issues and the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, which Rubio chairs.
Justine Sanders: Sanders, previously Rubio’s press assistant in the Senate office, will be deputy press secretary.
