Senator Rubio Comments on Farm Bill Vote

Jun 21, 2012 | Blog

U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) today issued the following statement regarding his vote against final passage of the Senate’s farm bill:

“While I support some provisions in this legislation, its overall cost of nearly $1 trillion is more than we can afford at a time when our debt stands at over $15 trillion and keeps growing fast. It’s also unfortunate that all Senate Democrats sided with labor unions over workers by rejecting the RAISE Act, which would allow workers to earn more money for a job well done without having to first clear it by union bosses.”

Earlier this year, Rubio introduced the Rewarding Achievement and Incentivizing Successful Employees (RAISE) Act, which would amend the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) Act provision that blocks employers from giving deserving employees merit-based raises or bonuses. Under the current law, almost 8 million Americans who are union members have capped salaries, making them ineligible for merit-based pay raises and bonuses without union approval.
