VIDEO: English/Español: Rubio Statement on CIA’s Interim “Havana Syndrome” Assessment
Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL), Vice Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, released a statement and video following a briefing on the release of the Central Intelligence Agency’s (CIA) interim assessment of anomalous health incidents (AHIs), commonly referred to as “Havana Syndrome.”
An English broadcast quality video on the assessment is available for download here.
“It’s important to note that the CIA’s current assessment on what and who may be behind AHIs that have affected U.S. intelligence and diplomatic personnel reflects only the interim work of the CIA task force,” Rubio said. “The CIA must continue to make this issue a priority and seek answers to the causes of mysterious symptoms, including brain injury, and whether they can be attributed to the work of a foreign government or a specific weapon or device, particularly in a core group of cases. Thanks to congressional leadership, those who are affected by AHIs finally have access to the medical care they deserve. The Senate Intelligence Committee will continue aggressive oversight of this issue until we have answers.”
In October 2021, President Joe Biden signed the Helping American Victims Afflicted by Neurological Attacks (HAVANA) Act (S. 1828) into law. The new law, which Rubio introduced with Senators Susan Collins (R-ME), Mark Warner (D-VA), and others, authorizes financial support and ensures medical care for American public servants who have suffered brain injuries from probable directed energy attacks.
Washington, D.C.
