VIDEO: Rubio Comments on White House School Safety Meeting
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) commented, in both English and Spanish, on today’s bipartisan meeting on school and community safety at the White House.
A transcript of Rubio’s remarks in English and Spanish can be found below. A high-quality version is available in English y Spanish.
RUBIO: The meeting at the White House today was important. We’re beginning the process this week of understanding what we can get done quickly and what’s going to require more time. Tomorrow, we’re going to announce Stop School Violence Act, which we’ve been working on for some time with Senator Hatch and the Newtown Promise families to try to get that moving forward. It actually would provide not just millions of dollars for school safety but also create all sorts of things that could have prevented the attack in Parkland and prevent future attacks from happening.
And we’re going to move on from there. We’re studying gun violence restraining orders. We’re going to file something on that. We’re trying to get the background check laws fixed and we’re working on that. Hopefully we can get quick action. So there’s a lot of work to do. But today I think we saw what I hope would be the beginning of a bipartisan effort to solve problems – not just attack one another. And that’s what I hope will continue.
