VIDEO: Rubio: ZTE and Huawei Should Not Be Allowed to Do Business in the US. Period.

Jul 25, 2018 | Comunicados de Prensa

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) appeared on Fox News’ America’s Newsroom this morning to discuss the threat Chinese telecommunications company ZTE poses to U.S. interests and today’s upcoming Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

Rubio recently denounced the removal of a bipartisan provision from the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) FY 2019 Conference Report to reinstate penalties against ZTE.

A rough and partial transcript of Rubio’s remarks is below:

RUBIO: We don’t have a choice but to win.

Well I don’t think ZTE or Huawei for that matter should be allowed to do any business in the United States. Period. On the issue of trade, China’s economy is one big tariff. It’s the most unfair deal you’ve ever seen in your entire life. The Chinese basically say we want our companies to go to your country and sell anything they want any way they want and we want to buy anything we want. But your companies cannot come into China. And if we even allow them to come in, then we’re going to force you to partner with a Chinese company, so we can steal your secrets and one day replace you and put you out of business. It’s the craziest thing ever. Finally an administration is standing up for them. There will be some pain, but there will be some pain for China too. But we are running out of time to get this right. They don’t seek parity with the United States, they seek to overtake us, they seek to dominate us economically. We cannot allow that to happen. And this is our last chance to confront it. I hope we stay strong on it.
