ICYMI: Rubio Joins America’s Newsroom

Apr 18, 2024 | Press Releases

U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) joined America’s Newsroom to discuss the conflict between Israel and Iran, the Senate not having an impeachment trial for Secretary Mayorkas, and more. See below for highlights and watch the full interview on YouTube and Rumble.

On the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran:

“I believe and expect that Israel is going to respond at a time and in a manner of their choosing, with regards to what was the single largest drone attack in history, which occurred against Israel on Saturday night.

“But what people forget is that just the night before, Hezbollah launched between 30 and 50 rockets. Israel faces launches every day. There’s up to 90,000 internally displaced Israelis right now that cannot return to their homes in northern Israel because of constant bombardment, or because of the fear of constant bombardment from Lebanon.

“You look at Hezbollah, you look at Hamas, you look at these militias in Iraq and in Syria, and none of them would exist without the Iranian regime, which is an important thing to point out. I don’t know any country in the world where the people of a country and the people who run it are more different than Iran. That regime is the source of all the violence and instability. The primary source of violence and instability in the Middle East is not the Israeli-Palestinian question. It is the Iranian involvement.

“That bleeds over here into the United States. Imagine, if you’re sitting in Tehran today, and you’re watching those images of those radicals blocking streets in San Francisco, you begin to think to yourself, ‘We’re winning the war inside of America, as a growing number of Americans are aligning themselves with and actually cheering Iranian attacks on the Jewish state.’ It’s deeply disturbing. How much longer are we going to tolerate this craziness in our own country?”

On the Senate not having an impeachment trial for U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas:

“The Senate Democrats didn’t want to have a trial, because the trial wasn’t just going to be about Mayorkas, although clearly that’s what an impeachment trial is, but it was going to be about the border policies. It was going to walk through the deliberate decisions made under Secretary Mayorkas that have ignored the laws of the United States and, in the process, lied to Congress about what’s happening. And they didn’t want a trial on that.

“It would have been a trial that would have exposed all of that for a week, or however long it took, with evidence and proof cited. And they didn’t want people to hear that. That’s why they blocked it.

“But in the process, they created a very dangerous new precedent. Future Senates are going to move to quickly dispose of impeachments that they think are political or on topics that are uncomfortable to them. That’s what happened yesterday.

“Most Americans will continue to see what’s happening at the border, but the opportunity will not exist to present all of that evidence in a format like an impeachment trial would have provided. And if you’re a vulnerable Democrat running for reelection in one of these states in which Trump’s projected to win, you’re probably breathing a sigh of relief that the border policies weren’t put on trial starting yesterday.”

On the House foreign aid bills that will be sent to the Senate:

“I think certainly the [foreign aid bill] for Israel will pass, and the one for Taiwan will pass. The one with Ukraine [is more complicated]. I personally believe that we need to help Ukraine, that we can’t just abandon them. I have said I want that tied to something happening here at our border, just like the Democrats have conditioned Israel’s aid on doing something for Ukraine.

“The Democrats have said, ‘We won’t do anything for Israel unless we do Ukraine.’ Republicans have said, ‘We won’t do Ukraine unless we do the border.’ It’s part of the process and how you have leverage here in a negotiation.

“If you go back, as I do, to Florida or any part of the country [outside Washington, D.C.], and you talk to people,…most Americans, I believe, want Ukraine to win, not Russia. They will say, ‘But how can we do that and not do anything about our own border?’ And I think that’s a very reasonable position to have. It’s a majority position in our country, and it’s one that we shouldn’t ignore.

“So, we’ll have to see what they can pass and what they send us. I don’t want to opine on it until we see what they’ve sent us. I think the Israel and the Taiwan bills should pass pretty quickly. I understand they’re also going to send over the TikTok ban, which I think is important, because it’s really a ByteDance ban. I hope we’ll take that up as well.”
