Jacksonville, FL — U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) and U.S. Representative John Rutherford (R-FL) met with first responders and teachers in Jacksonville, Florida to discuss the HELPER Act. Rubio will soon introduce the bill, which Rutherford previously introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives, in the U.S. Senate. Following the event, Rubio and Rutherford spoke with members of the press.

The HELPER Act would:

  • Create a new, one-time use home loan program under the Federal Housing Administration for law enforcement officers, firefighters, Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT), paramedics, and pre-K-12 teachers.
  • Eliminate a down payment requirement.
  • Eliminate a monthly mortgage insurance premium requirement.
  • Include a 3.6 percent upfront mortgage insurance premium payment requirement to help fund the program.
