English/Español: Rubio, Tillis Applaud CARES Act Fix to Allow Stimulus Money for U.S. Citizens
Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senators Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Thom Tillis (R-NC) applauded the inclusion of their legislation, The American Citizen Coronavirus Relief Act (S.4071), in the coronavirus relief package. This measure will ensure that a U.S. citizen is eligible to receive an Economic Impact Payment (EIP) if he or she is married to a foreign national who is not currently a citizen of the United States. This inclusion will apply retroactively as a refundable tax rebate and eligibility is also included for the next round of EIPs. Earlier this year, during an interview with Telemundo Network, Senator Rubio expressed his interest in remedying this ineligibility under the CARES Act.
“Fixing the provision that denied some eligible American citizens from receiving a federal stimulus check under the CARES Act was an oversight that needed correction,” Rubio said. “No American should have been blocked from receiving federal assistance during a global pandemic because of who they married. I thank Senator Tillis and my other Senate colleagues for their leadership in getting this across the finish line.”
“Every eligible American citizen should receive the direct economic stimulus payment from the CARES Act and this new COVID-19 relief package as we continue to battle this pandemic,” Tillis said. “I am proud this bipartisan legislation to fix this oversight will become law so hard-working North Carolinians receive the stimulus payment they deserve.”

RUBIO, TILLIS APLAUDEN CORRECCIÓN DEL CARES ACT PARA PERMITIRLE CHEQUES DE ESTÍMULO A CIUDADANOS DE EE. UU.
